Vehicles and transport

Drivers of works vehicles would benefit from the following information and it often comes up in on-site discussions, training and assessments.

Department of transport guidance on the website - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/securing-loads-on-hgvs-and-goods-vehicles.

All good drivers follow the principals in the highway code, which was amended in 2023 but had significant (50 changes) changes in 2022  - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code.

You can also sign up for direct updates of the code to help "keep you up to speed" - sorry, I could help it:)

Asbestos guidance

A client required some operator training to cover the issues around asbestos hazards. I created a tool box talk session so staff understand the hazards and what to do if they find or suspect they have found asbestos materials. To accompany the tool box talk briefing I found the videos below. I think they summarise some very useful information.

We will soon be adding links to the list below so you can access the latest information from these groups and committees.

Martin currently sits on:

  • The AA's Utility Arboriculture Group (UAG)
  • The National Highways Sector Scheme Committee (NHSS 18)
  • The Arboricultural and Forestry Advisory Group (AFAG) Committee
  • The Forestry Contracting Association (FCA) safety team
  • and the Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) Safety Documents and Electrical and Utilities working groups

If you have an issue you would like passed on at one of these events please let Martin know.

He would be happy to raise your point and feed back any information or comments.
